March
1 A pair of Stonechats were on Esher Common and a Little Owl at Hogsmill Sewage Works.
2 A Red Kite flew over Esher, also seen on 20th. Treecreeper in Bushy Park.
3 Sandown Park held approx. 90 Starlings.
6 A Mediterranean Gull at Hogsmill Sewage Works.
10 A wind driven Little Gull was at Walton Res (C&L) and a Kittiwake at Island Barn Reservoir.
19 2 Goldeneye were at Walton Res (K&B). 2 Siskin seen in Esher, also on 21st.
20 Red Kite recorded at Kempton NR.
22 A Red-throated Diver was at Island Barn Res also 30 Sand Martins.
23 At Kempton NR a Water Rail was recorded during the WeBS count. A Curlew flew around Island Barn Res and the first Wheatear of the year was seen at QE2 Reservoir.
24 At Hogsmill Sewage Works the Little Owl was seen mobbed by Blue Tits. Breeding behaviour was observed from 8 Lapwing at Kempton NR, also 8 Common Snipe were present. A Skylark was heard singing over Kempton Park Race Course. 3 Green Sandpiper and a Goldeneye were on Stain Hill Reservoir.
27 An adult Little Gull coming into summer plumage was at Island Barn Res. A pair of Manadarin Duck and a single Goldeneye were on Walton Reservoir (K&B). West End Common also recorded a pair of Manadarins.
29 9 Meadow Pipit were recorded in Home Park (Longwater area) also 2 Little Owls.
April
3 The heronry at Horton CP contained 6 active nests with a further new nest in an exposed position. 1-2 Bullfinch were also heard calling.
5 A Raven’s nest, thought to contain young was found on Esher Common.
6 3 Skylark were on Rushett Farm.
7 Roding Woodcock were recorded at Prince’s Coverts, also on the 13th.
11 Willow Warbler recorded in Home Park near Golf Club and the first 2 Swallow of the year flew north over Chessington.
16 Willow Warbler in New Malden at Green Lane Rec.
18 2 Wheatear at Barwell Court and a Willow Warbler in Chessington.
20 2 Rook flew over Molesey Heath, 2 Common Tern were at Island Barn Reservoir, a Wheatear was seen at QE2 Reservoir and Walton Reservoir held a Mediterranean Gull , a Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Reed Warbler and 3 Rook flew over.
21 7 Greenfinch and 3 Red-crested Pochard were at Hogsmill Sewage Works. A Cuckoo flew across Park Farm, Chessington and a Lesser Whitethroat was in Horton CP. During the Webs count at Kempton NR a Kingfisher, 3 Common Snipe and 4 Little Ringed Plover were recorded.
22 A Whinchat was seen briefly at Kempton NR.
25 A Hobby flew over Ewell Road, Surbiton. A Bar-tailed Godwit was at Kempton NR.
27 60 Swallow, 3 Swift and a Hobby were flying over Island Barn Reservoir. An Artic Tern, 2 Common Tern and a Spotted Redshank were at Walton Res.
30 3 Common Sandpiper, 2 Common Tern and a Cetti’s Warbler recorded at Island Barn Reservoir.
