Since its formation in 1954 the Surbiton and District Birdwatching Society has grown to become one of the foremost ornithological societies in the South East of England, located about 25 miles to the South West of London. The Society has grown in strength and reputation, providing its membership with a consistently wide range of activities. A brief history of the society can be found here.
Currently, the Society has around 130 members and partakes in many activities including field outings and residential weekends. There are also several groups active in supporting the British Trust for Ornithology and RSPB in their various censuses as well as having partaken for 3 years in the Parakeet Project
