Just before 11 a.m. M White, C Trim and A Quinn were in the W hide at Kempton NR, doing part of a WeBS survey. A flock of about 20 Herring Gulls suddenly took flight in panic and AQ said there must be a bird of prey about. MW briefly saw it high over the hide and he shot out to locate it. AQ joined him by which time it was very hight and perhaps 1-2 miles away. MW, who sees the Pullborough bird from time to time, said “ it’s not one of the eagles is it”. AQ replied “I think you are right”. AQ description viewed with x10 binoculars. Drifting away on flat wings, sometimes with primaries slightly depressed. Very dark and untidy looking. It banked and circled a couple of times with primaries well fingered and wings broad and of even width, broader distally than buzzard. As it banked it seemed almost tailless but too distant to be sure of presence of white.
