March

1st

At Walton Reservoir the usual female type Scaup was present with 4 Goldeneye, 2 Jack Snipe c30 Common Snipe and 7 Bar-tailed Godwit. Island Barn Reservoir held 2 Oystercatcher, 54 Lapwing, 9 Dunlin and a Green Sandpiper, a Water Rail was in the River Mole to the north. A Woodcock was recorded at Kempton Nature Reserve.

2nd

In snowy conditions 20 Reed Buntings were around the feeders at Kempton Nature Reserve.

3rd

A Jack Snipe noted at Walton Reservoir.

4th

At Rushett Farm, 4 Golden Plover, 13 Lapwing, c200 Skylark and 3 Yellowhammer were recorded.

9th

48 Wigeon recorded on the causeway at Walton Reservoir.

13th

Singles of Caspian and Mediterranean Gulls noted at Island Barn Reservoir.

14th

During the club “Family Day” in Bushy Park Tawny Owl and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker were seen.

15th

15 Lapwing, 24 Common Snipe, 43 Stock Dove, 35 Skylark and 20 Linnet seen at Rushett Farm.

18th

During WeBS counts, 80 Wigeon at Kempton Park Racecourse, 65 Shoveler and 3 Goldeneye at Stain Hill Reservoir. 2 Jack Snipe recorded at Walton Reservoir.

22nd

Singles of Red-throated Diver and Glaucous Gull recorded at Island Barn Reservoir.

23rd

Stonechat in Lower Marsh Lane, Berrylands.

24th

A new species for the society with the discovery of a Penduline Tit in the Walton Reservoir complex.
25th

Mediterranean Gull at Hampton Water Works and 2 male Bullfinch in Horton Country Park.

31st

First reported Wheatear of the year at Island Barn Reservoir

April

3rd

4 Swallow and 2 Wheatear at Island Barn Reservoir.

7th

A Dartford Warbler recorded at Walton Reservoir.

8th

Two drake Common Scoter and 2 adult Little Gull recorded at Island Barn Reservoir. Lesser Spotted Woodpecker seen in Bushy Park.

11th

Willow Warbler recorded in Horton Country Park.

14th

Drake Goosander on Walton Reservoir also 2 Black-necked Grebes.

15th

2 Red-crested Pochard at Hogsmill SW, Glaucous Gull and 2 Wheatear at Walton Reservoir. 2 Little Ringed Plover and single Wheatear seen at Kempton Nature Reserve.

16th

Little Gull at Island Barn Reservoir with Kingfisher on River Mole to the north of reservoir

17th

Singing Nightingale in Prince’s Coverts also a roding Woodcock.

18th

Lesser Whitethroat in scrub at Island Barn Reservoir.

21st

Greenshank seen at Walton Reservoir.

22nd

Singles of Little Gull and Wheatear at Walton Reservoir.

23rd

The first 13 Common Terns and 20 Swifts of the year at Walton Reservoir.

25th

Singles of Little Ringed Plover and Cetti’s Warbler at Hogsmill SW.

28th

Large numbers of hirundines at Walton Reservoir, 300+ Swallow, c50 Sand Martin and c100 House Martin. 2 Artic Tern also passed through, as did a Yellow Wagtail.

29th

31 Bar-tailed Godwit and 4 Whimbrel flew north over QE2 Reservoir, where 2 Wheatear, 12 Yellow Wagtail and a Blue-headed Wagtail were on the ground. A Little Tern was noted at Walton Reservoir.
